CANCER INSTITUTE OF NEW MEXICO
santa fe, nm
This 23,000 SF tenant improvement incorporates various functions of cancer diagnosis and treatment into a single integrated center serving Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado. Design Plus was able to quickly understand and synthesize extensive technical requirements which resulted in a successful design that addressed the Institute’s complex, technically-driven program in a flexible and innovative way.
The facility includes Medical Oncology (Chemotherapy suites, on-site pharmacy, research facilities, public education, associated exam rooms and labs); Imaging (MRI suite, PET/CT suite, Plain Film X-Ray suite, Mammography and Ultrasound); and a full Radiation Oncology department (Two Clinac treatment ‘bunkers’, Physicist department, exam rooms). All equipment and furniture requirements (technical and spatial) were coordinated by Design Plus, as well as providing full Interior Design services.
The Design Team worked within the existing building-shell to create a complex medical suite that is highly unique and suited to house multiple functions in one cohesive location. Beyond efficient engineering and design for the medical spaces, simple “way-finding” features were incorporated into the queue, transfer, and flow areas to alleviate patient anxiety with experiences of light, sound, and color; to create a recognizable sense of place in support of the Institute’s operational ideologies; and to move patients and staff through the facility in a logical manner by providing perceptual cues related to program and function. Because of the vibrant fine art culture in Santa Fe, Design Plus developed a plan for the design of unique, abstract landscape paintings on doors along patient circulation corridors and water features at important nodes within the center. Design Plus also managed the commissioning of local Santa Fe artists to design and install each of the pieces.
UNM Hospitals Eye Clinic
Integrative medicine clinic
Integrated Medicine Clinic focuses on the patient in a holistic fashion and utilizes both traditional and non-traditional treatment methodologies. As such, some aspects of the design / administrative functions operate in a non-traditional manner vis-à-vis the patient. We worked closely with the doctors to develop a unique facility focused upon one-on-one care, personal attention, comfortable examination rooms, clear way-finding, and spa-like finishes.
The new 7,300 square-foot clinical facility includes twelve exam rooms, diagnostics, procedure rooms, X-ray facilities, a therapy room to accommodate up to five patients, associated administrative facilities meeting HIPPA requirements, and billing / scheduling service areas.
In order to meet a tight schedule stemming from an end-of-lease date for the doctors, Design Plus worked with the design-assist contractor (Gear Condon) to establish a critical path schedule for design review and decision-making by the end-user. To further expedite the schedule we provided full turn-key interior design services including full furniture and finishes (FF&E) selections. Consequently, the doctors were able to make decisions on upgrades to the furniture and finish package prior to commencement of the construction phase.
